Education and Resources

Workshops and events for the identification and management of those with learning disabilities, with a special emphasis in the area of language learning differences, are offered to a broad range of audiences. Information Packets and Extended Resource Kits are available upon request and free of charge.

In addition, information for educators, families, and the general public is available through the JPWMF Rebecca Hall Memorial Library collection which is located at the Tom Green County libraries. Other on-line resources are available through links on this website.

Teacher Training

Continuing education workshops for educators on related topics are offered through the JPW Learning Center and Region XV.

The JPW Teacher Training Center offers a 2 year training course in Academic Language Therapy using Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia developed at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, TX. The prerequisite to begin this training is a bachelors degree. Graduate hours may be obtained for attending this training program through Angelo State University or Mid-Western State University. The Trainee must contact one of these schools for details.

Diagnostics

A Basic Screening evaluation is available through the JPWLC using the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital protocol. When additional diagnostic evaluation is indicated, referrals to TSRHC or private physicians or specialists may be made.

Student Instruction

Therapists and Teachers offer instruction in reading, handwriting, spelling, reading comprehension, verbal expression and vocabulary, composition, and multi-sensory math.

A formal diagnosis is highly recommended and may be required for certain services such as formal Academic Language Therapy.
